1000 Friends of Florida 2006 Legislative Priorities
Adopted by the Board of Directors
December 7, 2005


1. Protect the Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund from raids, support efforts to increase its level of funding, and encourage new legislation to address affordable housing shortages.

2. Participate in and support efforts to promote a successor to the Florida Forever program for the acquisition of environmentally sensitive lands.

3. Participate in discussions and provide recommendations on the proposed 2006 "glitch bill" to correct oversights in 2005's Growth Management Bill (SB 360).

4. Monitor and help defeat the reintroduced version of the sprawl-inducing Agricultural Enclave bill unless reasonable compromises can be achieved.

5. Monitor and help defeat any anti-Pinecrest legislation regarding the Scripps Biomedical Research Institute in Palm Beach County.

6. Actively work to support Legislative funding/bonding for land purchases related to Babcock Ranch in Charlotte and Lee counties.

7. Monitor all transportation bills with respect to growth management impacts, paying particular attention to transportation authority bills.

8. Evaluate any proposed changes to the Development of Regional Impact Program to ensure its continued viability.

9. Continue to participate as a member of the Century Commission, and support additional funding for necessary commission tasks and projects.

10. Evaluate, and support or oppose where appropriate, recommendations from the Coastal High Hazard Committee report to be presented by February 1, 2006.

11. Evaluate, and support or oppose where appropriate, recommendations from the Impact Fee Study Committee report released by Februray 1, 2006.

12. Evaluate recommendations, if any, from the House special project regarding eminent domain.

13. Support efforts to adopt a Land Use Board of Appeals as a better means of addressing development order and comprehensive plan amendment challenges.
