The Orange County Board of County Commissioners’ vote on November 15 to deny a massive proposed development outside of the Urban Services Area provided a major victory both for the environment and for the citizen advocates who led the charge. Sharing their perspectives, Kelly Semrad of Save Orange County will discuss the community organizing behind such a victory, while Orange County Commissioner-Elect Emily Bonilla will cover how widespread opposition to the proposal led to political change. Rounding out the discussion, Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine and Planner William Jay Zembower will address the challenges of intergovernmental coordination in the post-DRI era. The session will conclude with a question and answer period. 1000 Friends is applying for professional certification credits for planners (AICP CM), Florida attorneys (CLE), Certified Environmental Health Professionals, and Certified Floodplain Managers.
