Located on a barrier island near the Kennedy Space Center, the City of Satellite Beach is in the crosshairs of sea level rise.  Despite its relatively small population of 10,000 residents, Satellite Beach is a state leader in community resilience planning.  This webinar will cover how the city marshaled support and funding to address resilience. Satellite Beach resident and Florida Institute of Technology’s Dr. Ken Lindeman discusses the use of science-based information to sustain support, including products from the Sea Level Rise Subcommittee (created within the Comp. Planning Board in 2009). Coastal planning specialist Thomas Ruppert shares how Florida Sea Grant has helped to guide this effort through the years. The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council’s Director of Planning and Community Development Tara McCue discusses the role of the Regional Planning Council in supporting and facilitating this initiative.  This event has been approved for 1.5 AICP CM  Credits for planners (#9138850), 1 CEC for Certified Floodplain Managers, 2 CLE for Florida attorneys (1708850N- Intermediate), and .125 CEUs for Florida Environmental Health Professionals.
