Lake Pickett North: A Citizen Advocacy Success Story

Broadcast and PowerPoint

The Orange County Board of County Commissioners’ vote on November 15, 2016 to deny a massive proposed development outside of the Urban Services Area provided a major victory both for the environment and for the citizen advocates who led the charge.  Sharing their perspectives, 1000 Friends of Florida Policy and Planning Director Thomas Hawkins provides an overview of the Lake Pickett North project, Kelly Semrad of Save Orange County discusses the community organizing behind such a victory, while Orange County Commissioner Emily Bonilla covers how widespread opposition to the proposal led to political change.  Rounding out the discussion, Seminole County Commissioner Lee Constantine addresses the challenges of intergovernmental coordination in the post-DRI era.  The session concludes with a question and answer period.
