General Support – Since its founding in 1986, 1000 Friends has promoted building better communities and saving special places in our rapidly growing state. We rely heavily on the generous support of our friends to be able to proactively address issues as soon as they arise. Your general donation helps 1000 Friends to do what is needed in a timely and effective manner to protect our quality of life in Florida.
Dr. John M. DeGrove Education Fund – Honoring the memory of the “grandfather of growth management” and 1000 Friends founder and champion, we have established the Dr. John M. DeGrove Education Fund. Proceeds are devoted exclusively to educating citizens and local officials — through workshops, webinars, publications, and social media — on participating effectively in Florida’s planning process, building better communities, and saving special places.
Advocacy – 1000 Friends of Florida is your voice in the halls of the legislature and the courts. Each year, 1000 Friends works to hold back damaging state legislation and support efforts that promote effective planning and enhanced citizen participation in our state. 1000 Friends also pursues legal avenues to maintain the integrity of growth management in Florida. 1000 Friends fights to safeguard urban service boundaries, protect comprehensive planning, uphold the right of citizens to participate, and more.
Saving Special Places – 1000 Friends is a recognized leader in the effort to protect Florida’s natural lands. We develop and implement state, regional and local tools to better protect vital natural systems—from springs and springsheds to the iconic Everglades. We work with local elected officials, staff, concerned citizens and citizen groups protect significant natural areas and ensure that any development is appropriate and compatible.
